In the Kondoa district of Tanzania, 20 widows and orphaned girls received support to transform their futures through sewing, thanks to the Economic Empowerment of Widows through Cloth-Making initiative.
Supported by Trelleborg Offshore & Construction AB which provided them with the necessary equipment namely sewing machines, embroidery machines and other accessories, these women received vital training in July 2023 that enabled them to gain life-long skills in sewing and embroidery after which they started to produce school uniforms and general clothing, enabling them to generate income and gain financial independence. Beyond the direct impact on these women, the project is also benefiting their families—120 children, grandchildren, and dependents—by providing stability, education, and hope. With each stitch, they are building a sustainable future for themselves and their community.
